International dimension

Research activity in Bio-chemistry is characterized by a strong internationalization, at all levels.
Elements of internationalization of the PhD in Bio-chemical Sciences include:

  • the presence in the Teaching Board of researchers with a high international scientific profile,
    belonging to foreign universities or internationally recognized Italian research institutions,
    who will contribute with their experience and expertise to give a broad international opening to the Doctorate;
  • PhD students will be strongly encouraged to spend research periods abroad working under the supervision of a local professor,
    thus coming into contact with other teams and research groups;
  • the scientific production of a PhD student in Bio-chemical Sciences usually consists of articles published in international journals,
    indexed in the main databases, subject to anonymous peer-review;
  • participation in conferences and research schools of international level, both in Italy and abroad, is part of the normal training activities;
  • seminars and doctoral courses held by visiting professors will be organized;
  • It is common practice for PhD students in Bio-chemical Sciences to go abroad for postdoc positions once they have obtained their degree.

The PhD program actively supports the internationalization of the PhD students’ profiles with a financial contribution to:

  • their attendance to international congresses, and
  • the organization of scientific secondments at international universities and research centers.

At least 6 months of this type of international activity is mandatory for all PhD students, up to a maximum of 18 months.

All procedures related to the authorization, insurance coverage and refunding of international mobility are well defined within the program, and all PhD students are duly informed of them at the beginning of their three-year activities.
